Meet our Staff!
Art accepted the position of Executive Director of Discovery Space, a capstone in a career of university, public and private service. Having recently returned from service in the US Peace Corps in Botswana, Art has re-established his home in State College and his commitment to Central Pennsylvania. As the Museum’s first director, Art’s primary objective is to bring Discovery Space to life as the region’s venue for science education and environmental awareness for our community’s children. Art brings to Discovery Space extensive experience in leading and managing university/community/industry and government partnerships in economic and community development having retired with a distinguished career at Penn State. At the university Art directed the Industrial Research Office, Penn State’s Innovation Park, Outreach and Continuing Education programs at Penn State Berks and Scranton. In addition Art was responsible for new enterprise development and training with the Ben Franklin Technology Center Program. In the private sector Art was employed with the Delta Development Group as Senior Associate for Economic Development Planning working with communities across Pennsylvania to plan for sustainable growth.

Misha joined the Discovery Space team after receiving her Masters of Education in Applied Youth, Family and Community Education from Penn State. For her masters research she developed and implemented an environmental education and community gardening program. Misha grew up just outside if New York City, where she gained experience with informal science education at the Bronx Zoo and the NYC Parks and Recreation Department. As the Assistant Director of Museum Operations she is responsible for the daily operation of Discovery Space including staff supervision, scheduling, and volunteer management. In addition to her love of science education, she enjoys hiking, swimming, traveling, and art.

Ellen is a local resident of State College and married with 2 daughters. She graduated from Penn State University with a BS in Human Development and has worked in marketing for the last 15 years. She began as a volunteered with Discovery Space a year before they opened, during which she spearheaded museum contests, such as Draw Me An Exhibit and Name our Logo. She was initially hired as Assistant Director to open the museum for Children and Youth Day of the Central PA Arts Festival, and has since changed hats as Marketing Manager now that the museum is up and running. In her spare time she's obsessed with skiing but enjoys the warmer months with biking and kayaking and visiting other children's science museums.
