Summer Camp Educator

Discovery Space is seeking to fill multiple Summer Camp Educator positions. Summer Camp Educators will work 20-30 hours per week and must commit to a minimum of 4 weeks of camp. A full list of camp details can be found under the Camps tab.

These positions work closely with the Camp Director, other camp staff, volunteers and museum staff. You will be expected to become familiar with all activities for each week of camp worked. Job duties include oversight of all campers, as well as facilitation and implementation of planned activities.

As this position involves daily contact with children, camp staff, volunteers and parents, effective communication skills and attention to the safety of children are required. The ideal candidate will possess a high degree of professionalism and courteousness. Previous experience with summer camps or another informal learning environment with children, and a general interest in science is required. This is a fast-paced position and will require a considerable amount of time working on your feet.

Front Desk Manager

The Front Desk Manager is responsible for insuring safe and productive operation of Discovery Space. Responsibilities include daily business operations, opening and closing routine, management of volunteer staff, exhibit and program schedule for the assigned shift. Additional responsibilities may include management of the membership database or office management.

  • Demonstrated leadership strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and mastery of software management tools such as MS Office, CRM and others.
  • High-school Diploma required; Bachelors degree preferred.

The position is a part-time position. Weekends will be necessary.

Afterschool Science Educator
Discovery Space seeks one enthusiastic individual with experience teaching science to elementary aged audiences (K-6 graders) to join our education team.

Selected candidate will be responsible for planning and facilitating highly interactive, 90-120 minute science programs consistent with our mission during afterschool hours. Hours are 12-5:30pm Monday through Thursday. In the case of a well-qualified candidate, more opportunities do exist for increased hours, responsibility and pay.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or science; however, experience will be strongly considered no matter the degree;
  • Experience developing and facilitating educational programming with elementary or middle school kids, demonstrating good classroom management skills, and understanding how to effectively engage multi-age youth in science learning;
  • Team focused attitude with a passion for connecting children with science;
  • Reliable transportation and valid license. 
Current PA criminal and child abuse background clearances are required.
