As a community based organization, Discovery Space of Central Pennsylvania derives its funding support from a limited number of sources. With a first year budget of over $550,000 we are dependent upon the generosity of our donor base,coupled with support from local government and our skill in competing for external funding through foundations and agencies to raise our much needed revenue. To date we have raised approximately 70% of our first year funding goal with the majority (70%)of our total funding requirement coming from private donors. We were fortunate to have received a commitment from the State College Borough Government for $50,000 in support of our start up efforts.This welcome news is further evidence of the broad-based commitment we have from our community.
We can by no means rest easy in our fund raising efforts. We must raise over$100,000 if we are to successfully meet our goal of a fully operational children's science museum this year. Our fundraising efforts will continue to focus primarily on our donor community,and we are working hard to develop other funding resources.
Fundamental to of our fund raising strategy this year was the launch of the Discovery Space Founders Society. The Founders Society provides an opportunity for supporters of Discovery Space to contribute during the early critical phases of building renovation and exhibit development.By giving an accumulated total of $1,000 or more to Discovery Space by December 31, 2011, (you) a potential donor will qualify for membership in the Founders Society. After December 31, membership will be closed. Some benefits of Society membership include:
